Stop an Obama "Grand Bargain" [read "Grand Sellout"]

At President Obama's first post-election press conference he stressed his eagerness to work with Republicans.

Without being asked about Medicare or Social Security, he urged "deficit reduction that includes entitlement changes."

Reporters didn't ask about the option of cutting military spending, and the President never brought it up.

Does this sound like ingredients of a Grand Bargain you'd like to see?

Tell the President and Congress to expand Medicare and Social Security, to invest in green energy, to raise taxes on the rich and corporations, and to cut military spending back to the level of 12 years ago.

Please forward this email widely to like-minded friends.

Boycott these companies who claim they can't afford healthcare #boycott4healthcare

Prior to the election certain rightwing employers, in an attempt to intimidate voters, were threatening their workers with layoffs if their chosen rightwing presidential candidate did not defeat our President.
Now, subsequent to the election, the rightwingers are continuing their scare tactics, threatening workers with reduced hours and even layoffs, claiming that without punishing the workers that way, they can't afford to provide their workers with healthcare insurance.
First Papa John's made such an announcement.
Now Olive Garden and Red Lobster and Applebees have followed suit.
I am going to boycott any companies making such, or similar, pronouncements, and will maintain a list here of all such companies, until they relent from their un-American, anti-social, anti-worker, anti-human, anti-healthcare policies, and will use the hashtag #boycott4healthcare on twitter to discuss such boycotts.
The List of Companies to Boycott:

Papa John's
Olive Garden
Red Lobster
Applebees
Denny's
Walmart
Dollar General

I will update the list as best I can. If you send me comments informing me of new companies to add to the list, and/or of companies to remove from the list because they have relented and retracted their anti-human position, I will incorporate the information as I update the list.

Action memo from the Other 98%

I'm not going to tell you who to vote for - but I am going to tell you how to make sure your vote counts, and how to make sure your community gets to vote alongside you.
If you do one thing ahead of time:
If you want to vote smart:
If you can help make sure everyone in your community can vote:
Don't let anyone take away your rights.
On Tuesday, we vote. But 364 days of the year, we push the system in other ways, and that includes mutual aid in the face of climate chaos. We are supporting Occupy Sandy, a volunteer-run project that is providing incredible relief in Hurricane Sandy's wake. Please consider joining us.
We'll see you after the election. Thank you so much for the work you do this week, and every week.
Sincerely,
John Sellers, The Other 98%

The system isn't broken; it's fixed

The National Campaign to End Corporate Personhood and Demand Real Democracy! Move to Amend

The System Isn’t Broken, It’s "Fixed"

Election Day is Tuesday. We need you now.
Move to Amend has been invited to partner with our friends at No More Stolen Elections to safeguard this election. We need your pledge.
In order for small “d” democracy to flourish, Americans must demand clean, safe and transparent elections. Currently, we have a corporate-controlled system where vote-rigging can easily be (and has already been) accomplished. Voter suppression campaigns are already underway and voters are being given incorrect information about when and how to vote and who is eligible to participate in the election.
This cannot stand!
1) Take the pledge: No More Stolen Elections!
2) Join our briefing conference call on Sunday, November 4 at 3pm Pacific / 6pm Eastern. Click here to register.
3) Forward this email to everyone you know!
~ PLEDGE OF ACTION: No More Stolen Elections! ~
WE REMEMBER Florida 2000, Ohio 2004, and Wisconsin 2011, and are willing to act this year if the right to free and fair elections is denied again.
WE SUPPORT efforts to protect the right to vote leading up to Election Day.
IF NECESSARY, WE PLEDGE to join nationwide pro-democracy protests starting on the next day, either in my community, in key states where fraud occurred, or in Washington, D.C., and if necessary, to demand a recount, investigation, and criminal prosecutions of those responsible.

Can we prevent a national election meltdown?

Share This:

Will they hack the presidential election? According to this week's Christian Science Monitor, "if someone could get a few minutes’ unattended access to a paperless machine, that person could install a software virus that could spread to other machines and switch those machines’ votes before deleting all traces of itself."

Be prepared. Act now in three important steps:
  1. Sign the  Pledge of Action and forward it to everyone you know.
  2. Donate to our Rapid Response Fund.
  3. Organize a  Voter Assembly in your community for Nov 7th, the day after the election.
With the clock ticking, every hour brings new reports of serious voting rights violations.

From Ohio, today, came the news that experimental software patches were installed on vote counting tabulators in up to 39 Ohio counties.  The Free Press has found that an elections corporation, Election Systems and Solutions (ES&S), installed software patches that will impact 4,041,056 registered voters, including those in metropolitan Columbus and Cleveland. This software install violates Ohio law because this software has never been tested by public authorities. And this, just 5 days before Election Day.

People in Florida, Virginia and Indiana have gotten calls falsely telling them they can vote early by phone and don't need to go to a polling place. In suburban Broward County, Fla., a handful of elderly voters who requested absentee ballots say they were visited by unknown people claiming to be authorized to collect the ballots.
Support free elections
In 2004, we organized the first No Stolen Elections! campaign and launched the Ohio Recount. In 2008, 2011, and 2012, our No More Stolen Elections! efforts have exposed fraud, forced recounts, and built momentum for hand-counted paper ballots and other essential reforms. But we can't afford to rest now. We need the resources to keep moving forward. We must be ready on Election Day.  Please give now.

Two stolen presidential elections is two too many. The only thing that could be more true than that is that a third presidential election is being manipulated right now.

Remember:
  1. Sign the  Pledge of Action and forward it to everyone you know.
  2. Donate to our Rapid Response Fund.
  3. Organize a  Voter Assembly in your community for Nov 7th, the day after the election.
Yours for Democracy,
