On December 13th, President elect, Donald Trump, announced that he has officially selected Rex Tillerson as Secretary of State for his cabinet.

Tillerson is the CEO of Exxon Mobil, which has been under investigation by several state attorney general for fraud and for hiding scientific evidence about the risks of climate change.  Tillerson has no previous experience in foreign policy.

On the same day news outlets reported that Donald Trump is also planning to appoint Rick Perry, former Governor of Texas, as the Secretary of Energy. Rick Perry is on the board of directors for Energy Transfer Partners, the parent company of the Dakota Access Pipeline.

The following is a statement from the Indigenous Environmental Network:

These repugnant selections only demonstrate that President-elect Trump is more concerned with securing the unsustainable future of a fossil fuel economy than protecting the future generations of Mother Earth and humanity. Trump will place our land, water, and communities on the chopping block for the false benefit of capitalism, with its regime of the privatization of Life. We as grassroots Indigenous communities stand by our convictions to defend the sacred and demand the recognition of our inherent rights, by any means necessary, in line with our original instructions.”
