Last night I went on The Ed Shultz Show to formally announce that on Nov. 15th, the Democratic Party of Wisconsin will join with United Wisconsin and other grassroots organizations to begin the recall of Scott Walker on Nov. 15th. In just under 17 hours, over 2100 grassroots supporters have joined our fight for Wisconsin's working families by donating more than $60,000. Recalling Scott Walker is a going to be a task of historic proportions. But I know you are up to it. As we kick off this extraordinary undertaking, please make a donation of $11.15 toward our goal of raising $540,206 by November 15th. Like you, I still get chills when I think about the thousands of people on the Capitol steps in Madison when this all started back in February. It has since become clearer than ever that the people of Wisconsin - the traditions and institutions of our great state - cannot endure any more of Scott Walker's abuses. It is clear that to preserve Wisconsin, we must begin the recall of Walker as soon as possible. Scott Walker was dishonest with the people of Wisconsin when he ran for Governor.  Soon after he took office, he proposed a radical change to state law by trying to take away state workers’ right to collective bargaining which he never mentioned once during the campaign. We cannot sit back and allow Scott Walker to continue to dismantle our education system, run our government as an auxiliary of corporate special interests, put our clean air and water at risk, and ignore an unemployment crisis that his policies exacerbated. An Advocacy Department representative talks to protesters about their rights with the police. We're also engaging the protestors on Faceboook and Twitter as well. Dear friend, As the Occupy Wall Street movement gains steam, the NYCLU is standing beside the demonstrators and defending their right to speak their minds. Teams of NYCLU staff and volunteers regularly visit the movement's headquarters at Zuccotti Park to distribute our Know Your Rights information and engage the demonstrators' on their experiences with the NYPD. The park's makeshift library is well-stocked with our Demonstrating in New York City and What to Do if You're Stopped by Police guides. And perhaps most importantly, our royal blue-clad legal observers are on hand monitoring police activity and recording any instances of police misconduct. We will hold the police accountable for any misconduct. You can help us. If you or somebody you know has been the victim of police misconduct associated with the protests, if you've seen the police engaging in intimidating behavior or using video cameras in a way that chills the right to protest, or if you'v seen the police doing something right, please tell us about it. Fighting for American Jobs One of the major reasons the middle class is collapsing and unemployment is unacceptably high is that disastrous trade agreements have cost us millions of good-paying jobs. During the last 10 years, 50,000 U.S. factories shut down, millions of jobs were lost and it is harder and harder to buy products made in the United States. We need a trade policy which demands that corporate America invest in this country, not China. That's why Bernie opposes new trade agreements with South Korea, Colombia and Panama which President Obama sent to Congress on Monday. The trade deals in the works since the Bush administration failed in the past and won't work now. One of my favorite passages in all of American literature is this passage delivered by Jane Darwell, playing Ma Joad, in the great film "Grapes of Wrath" based on the John Steinbeck novel:

For nearly a month, Occupy Wall Street protesters have been camped out in Liberty Square near Wall Street.

The protesters are sleeping on the street, facing arrest, and police violence. They are gaining media attention, inspiring thousands more to join them every day here in New York and across the country -- and they are giving a voice to the American middle class that has been attacked by big corporations and their corporate allies in Congress.

It's time to stand up and join the Occupy movement. They are fighting for us.

Right now, thousands of people are gathered in Zucotti Park in New York City to protest the corruption and greed at the root of our nation’s economic crisis.
For several weeks now, protesters have been fighting against the economic system that rewards the greed of Wall Street with tax loopholes, sweetheart deals, and billion dollar bailouts.
On October 5, at 4:30 pm, we’re meeting with unemployed workers, students, union members, and other activists at the southwest corner of Broadway and Worth Street in Midtown Manhattan.
